True 6lb Density, Visco-Elastic Memory Foam
Available on our Bed 4 Life 10K3, 9550, and 7500 Airbeds, true 6lb density, visco-elastic memory foam is simply one of the best pressure-relieving material on the market. The higher the density of the memory foam the better the "Quality". Basically the higher the density the longer the foam will retain it's visco elastic memory foam properties. This doesn't mean that the higher the density the "firmer" it's going to be. Most Tempurpedic mattresses are made up of 5lb memory foam.
Story
Visco-elastic memory foam is a breakthrough in sleep technology that will forever change the way you sleep. The original formula was developed in the early 1970's at NASA's Ames Research Center in an effort to relieve astronauts of the incredible g-forces experienced during lift-off. Fagerdala World Foams of Sweden spent almost a decade and millions of dollars researching and experimenting with the NASA material before discovering a way to produce a consistent and durable product.
The cellular structure of the memory foam is completely different. It's made up of billions of high density, viscoelastic, memory cells. The cells are spherical with windows, and the key isÂ…they're temperature sensitive. In warm areas, it gets softer and pliable. In cooler areas, it stays firm. The cells will literally shift position and reorganize to conform to your body contours. The cells shift so you don't have to. It's like having a mattress custom designed to fit your body.
- Visco: resistant to change of shape.
- Elastic: able to return to its original shape after being forced to change.
Imagine lying on a surface that knows exactly how far to let you "sink in" so that every point on the contour of your body is supported. The surface then "flows" back to its original, flat shape… much like pushing your hand into the surface of a bowl of water. The water would flow to fill every contour and crease of your hand, then return to its original shape once your hand is removed.
Memory Foam becomes softer in warmer areas where your body is making the most contact with the surface and remains firmer in cooler areas where less body contact is being made. If you lie down on your back, the heaviest parts of your body, typically your hips, sink in further than the lighter parts, like your feet. As your hips sink in, the material rises to meet your upper thighs and lower backÂ…eventually filling any gaps along the contour of the back of your body. As the material molds to your shape, your body becomes supported in the correct anatomical positionÂ…with your neck and spine in perfect alignment
Density
Simple, the heavier the foam, the LONGER the foam will retain it's visco-elastic, memory foam properties. The problem with low density foam is that it breaks down really fast. That great feel you get when you receive the product is usually short lived. With memory foam products, the slow recovery feel tends to go away and the memory foam just ends up feeling like regular foam. Lower density foam loses it's shape and breaks down by getting permanent body impressions.
We've all bought cheap couches before. The foam is packed into a big fat cushion which feels wonderful the first couple of months, then gradually it starts to sag until it's almost flattened out. Same thing goes with beds. The mattress you bought at the discount store was a steal until, after just a few months, you can see where both of you lay at night. What happened? Did the springs go bad? Are the metal springs bent? Nope, that low density foam wore out and has lost all of it's bounce. So plain and simple, the heavier the foam (the higher the density) the longer the foam will last.
Air Barrier
To further aid your sleep experience and ensure the long life of your Bed 4 Life Air bed, we have invented a product called Air Barrier™ (2" memory foam only) that acts as a protective shield between you and your memory foam: tearing, and heat buildup. If you have ever purchased a memory foam topper, you know that these are two concerns with memory foam. They feel great, and reduce pressure, no doubt, but in order to keep the foam in tact for a lifetime, and keep your body heat from building up, we created Air Barrier™.
Air Barrier™ is a tough, but stretchable nylon mesh that is fixed to the top side of the memory foam insert with a thin layer of poly fibers inbetween. The mesh is stretchable, so you won't notice any performance change in the memory foam, but it keeps the memory foam from tearing as you handle it, during installation and periodic rotation. The poly fiber layer allows air to circulate between your body and the foam, virtually eliminating heat buildup.
When you press your hand on the Air Barrier layer, you can literally feel cool air escaping! Try it today!sd This technology makes your memory foam layer durable, cool and comfortable for a lifetime.
